This training will provide the participants with theory and practical sessions to understand all aspects of training in GMDSS radio communications and the operational parameters of GMDSS which uses modern technology including satellite communications and digital selective calling techniques in the MF, HF and VHF bands (the latter known as terrestrial systems) enabling a distress alert to be transmitted and received automatically.
Participants will be trained in techniques to avoid the unintentional transmission of false Distress alerts and the procedures to use in order to mitigate the effects of false Distress alerts following unintentional transmission. The course will enable participants to have the understanding that the GMDSS is a combination of systems and sub-systems using both satellite and terrestrial communication systems to fulfill its functional requirements.
