This training involves a combination of theory and practical lessons using GMDSS radio simulators, covering practical applications in the areas of Radio regulations and procedures relating to Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). The General Operators Certificate (GOC) is the highest level of GMDSS radio operator qualification and is suitable for professional mariners performing navigation watch duties on SOLAS size vessels that are equipped with GMDSS equipment.
The training enables participants to gain detailed practical knowledge of the equipment of ship stations including digital selective calling (DSC), the principles of telex over radio, and to inmarsat systems. Participants will be introduced to the operational procedures and practices and the exchange of communications relevant to the safety of life at sea.
