The Watch Keeper Rating course is designed to train Seafarers who wish to obtain the appropriate certificate to perform watch keeping duties on the bridge at support level and other deck machinery’s maintenance and operational duties. OBJECTIVE On the completion of this course, trainees will meet the STCW mandatory minimum requirements for Deck Rating, as per the 2010 amendments to the 1978 STCW Convention and Code – STCW Code Table A-II/4. COURSE OUTLINE The deck watch rating’s training is collaborated with various facilities at PMTC, ie; simulation equipment and practical exercises, to impart the relevant knowledge and skill to trainees thus enabling them to perform watchkeeping duties on board vessels. On completion of this training, the trainee will have acquired the knowledge and skill to perform the following duties competently;

 

• Maintain and handle ropes

• Use ropes on shipboard applications 

• Provide safe means of access to personnel

• Perform watch keeping duties at support level

• Be able to perform shipboard duties safely with an appreciation of Occupational Health and Safety issues.

• Perform deck maintenance duties

• Observe marine pollution measures

• Understands the importance of emergency procedures The Certificate of Competency (COC), Watchkeeper Rating, Deck, provides a pathway into higher Deck Officer qualifications as per the 2010 amendments to the 1978 STCW Conventions training structure. ___________________________________________________________________________________

 

DECK RATING ONE Basic Safety Training This course is designed to meet the minimum professional requirements of the 2010 amendments to the STCW Convention and Code, Chapter VI, Table A – VI/1-1 to VI/1-4 and is based on the guidelines of IMO Model Course 1.12, 1.18, 1.19, 1.20. The basic safety program consists of:

 

• Personal Survival Techniques

• Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

• Basic First Aid

• Personnel safety and social responsibility

• Maritime Security awareness or Designated security duties certificate

• Occupational health and safety

• Tank entry procedures CERTIFICATES The trainee will receive a certificate of competency as Watchkeeper Rating, Deck, which meets the STCW Code table A-II/4, as amended. WHO SHOULD ATTEND

• The candidate should at least be 18 years of age

• The candidate should meet the prerequisite requirements and be medically fit to be a seafarer. MISCELLANOUS All candidates will receive a set of PMTC uniforms; one pair of trousers and a t-shirt. TRAINING DURATION Duration:

• Total of 10 weeks which includes; 7 days SOLAS for refresher or 10 days if initial sea safety is required.
